Green Tea Extract, 60 caps, SAFA Lab
This product provides a reliable, concentrated source of
specific beneficial, active compounds that occur naturally in the green tea
plant. Green, black, and oolong tea are all derived from the same plant, Camellia sinensis. Each has somewhat
different characteristics depending on how the leaves are prepared. Green tea,
unlike black and oolong tea, is not fermented, so the active constituents
remain unaltered in the herb. Green tea extract supplies significant amounts of
catechin polyphenols, natural compounds in tea that provide antioxidant
protection, increase energy expenditure, and promote fat oxidation. Green tea
extract may assist weight maintenance as part of a healthy diet and exercise
plan.
• Extra Potent Extract: Green tea contains
several natural, bioactive substances well recognized for their potential
health benefits, including important polyphenol compounds. Catechins are the
most abundant class of polyphenols in tea. The principle and most active
catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Other constituents of
green tea include L-theanine, caffeine, tannins, and theaflavins. The green tea
extract used in this product contains significantly higher amounts of EGCG
compared to most green tea extracts. It provides 95% polyphenol content
supplying 40% catechins as EGCG.
• Weight Management Support: Several
studies have suggested a role for green tea extract in promoting weight loss.
Studies using green tea extract have found it can significantly suppress food
intake, body weight gain, and fat tissue accumulation. Green tea extract has
been shown to increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation to an extent that
is much greater than can be attributed to its individual components, indicating
its effects may be due to a synergistic interaction of catechin polyphenols,
caffeine, and L-theanine.
• Antioxidant Benefit: Green tea
polyphenols are potent antioxidants that reduce free radical induced damage
contributing to the inflammatory process. They enhance antioxidant enzyme
activities as well as inhibit membrane lipid peroxidation. Their antioxidant
potential is related to their ability of the hydroxyl groups to bind and
neutralize free radicals.
Green tea polyphenols also inhibit the production of
arachidonic acid metabolites such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, resulting
in a decreased inflammatory response.
